The Path to Full Operational Capacity—Testing ESA’s Galileo

When complete, Galileo, Europe’s Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), will join GPS, GLONASS and other upcoming systems in providing positioning services to users across world. As part of the development of the Galileo system, Thales Alenia Space used Spirent GNSS simulation to rigorously test all aspects of the GNSS, both in isolation and together.

Spirent’s simulator was selected to deliver accurate and reliable signals; and also provide a broad variety of different scenarios, and other advanced features, such as integration, multipath modeling and PRS simulation
This case study provides an overview of the project, and explains how Thales used the GSS8000 simulator.

This device has now been superseded by the GSS9000, which offers significantly more simulation capabilities.
